Should Australia Become A Republic? :: essays research papers

I believe that Australia should not become a commonwealth. I hark back that there would be no point in becoming a land, because we live with emerge the intervention of the Queen at the moment, so becoming a republic would achieve nothing. If we were to become a republic, we would fall back the support of England in times of war, famine or other disaster. I think that becoming a republic would achieve nothing, lose our links with England and waste the parliaments time when they should be concerned with more important issues.If we were to become a republic, the governor general would be replaced by a president who would have the same powers and responsibilities as our Governor General, so only the name and the person holding the position would change, wasting important parliament time and achieving absolutely nothing. At the present time, there is nothing wrong with the constitution, and if there was anything wrong with it, it could be changed by referendum, once again proving tha t becoming a republic is pointless. Currently, we are not tied down at all by the monarchy, and although the Queen does have the power to intervene in the running of our country, she doesnt out of tradition, and therefore, probably never will, bound by the tradition. If we become a republic, we would lose valuable ties with England and perhaps part of our heritage that goes with it. England can support us by many unfortunate events that we may face and England, being on the other side of the world may not, putting them in a position to passport us financial, military or other support. If we were to become a republic would we forget that the English were the first people to colonise our country, and instead of learning most the colonisation of our country, learn about the way in which we broke free from England and the monarchy? We owe our existence in Australia to the English and we are treated very well(p) by them - they let us manage our own affairs and dont interrupt in the r unning of the country, while still offering their support if we should ever demand it, and if we were to break free from this "tight rein" by the monarchy, would they still offer their support when we needed it?Becoming a republic would achieve nothing and we would lose our valuable ties with England and the monarchy.

Ignorance In Your High School Principal; My Trip To His Office :: essays research papers

I walked into his office. The look on his face was distasteful. He made me feel inferior to him. not the way you should feel around your high school principal. I didnt feel welcome, or even accepted. His beady eyes burned holes in my skin. I sat. He gazed into my tired eyes, and he asked me the following, "Whats going on?" How am I supposed to respond to this sort of question? If I say "nothing," its a given that there is something. However, if I try to speak with him about anything, it will be like talking to a brick w all told. Authority figures never take for any compassion. They care only about the someone that rules them. In this case it would be the superintendent. I reply with a comment which is very versatile, "Not much, and yourself?" He gives me a look of disappointment. The kind of look you get when your parents find out youve been skipping school for the whole first semester. He turns his back to me. I hate it when they do that. They always rin g you are going to be sitting there waiting for them to turn around. Like you think they are the most important person in the world. I fall apartt do that though, I just admire all the hoaky pictures and quotes on his white walls. Yeah, if he actually believed in all these sayings he wouldnt be working here, I think. Suddenly, I feel my ears begin to burn. I try to do a fit by play in my head of what I am going to say to him. I dont know why I do that, it never helps. I always end up shooting off my mouth, and getting into trouble. He turns back around and informs me that I was absent this past Friday. LIKE I dont know. He tells me I have to serve seven hours of detention. "Excuse me, Mr. Principal, Sir..." I begin. Only to be cut off with another, "I dont want to hear it." I shut my mouth and let him ramble on. I have a lot of better things to do with my time, I think to myself. Listening to people you really dont care to listen to is quite boring. So, I let my mi nd wander. I think of how many runs I could be snowboarding down at this very moment.

Dickens uses pronouns to name her, he uses words likeshe and her. He says she had a long white veil dependant from her blur and she had bridal flowers in her hair. This gives theimpression of a young bride. On the contrary, love actually played a very minor role in the volume of matrimonies that took place. An engagement was entered into as one would approach a business deal, and there were some generally accepted rules and guidelines to follow.The Rules * It was illegal to bind your deceased wifes sister. You could marry first cousins, but attitudes changed towards the end of the 19th century, and this became frowned upon. * Victorians were encouraged to marry within the same class (remember the views on social mobility). The Internet was the result of some visionary people in the early 1960s who saw great potential value in allowing computers to share culture on research and development in scientific and military fields. These schools included Stanford Research Institute, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, and the University of Utah. By 1971 fifteen more schools had been added to this network including a university in Hawaii. Real World Connection

Real World Connector In the chapter Church, I felt a connection with Kiowa. Not a minister, he said, but I do like churches. The way it feels inside. It feels good when you just sit there, like youre in a forest and everythings really quiet, except theres still this sound you cant hear. The way I restore to this part is the same way I feel when I go to a synagogue (similar to a church) I feel the same way. When I go to the temple I sit there and listen to the prayer. But when I get into the prayer, everything goes quiet.I get this really good feeling inside myself. All my fears are taken over by peace. I think thats why Kiowa says this is just wrong to be inside a holly place. One thing I didnt understand the monks cleaning the solider weapons. Was there so representative of this. I know in my temple the minister is not allowed to touch weapons. Overall, a temple or a church are both ghostly place, but are both peaceful places. We are supposed to feel save in a place or worship. Henry farm horse tells us about how he liked the whole idea of being a minister. I was a kid.The thing is, I believed in God and all that, but it wasnt the religious part that interested me. Just being nice to people, thats all. existence decent. The teaching of any church or temple are the same. God tells us to be good humans, and give back to the community. I crack and disagree with Henry Dobbins. I agree with him to the part about being a nice person. I disagree with the part when he says it wasnt the religious part that interested me. The reason I disagree with this is because reglion should about be an interest not only the lessons of God. Maybe I misunderstand what Henry Dobbin was saying.

I.Introductiona.My speech is on common elements I found in African societies. Among these are animism, Bantu language, and their political organization. b.The importance of this to Islam is that few African states converted to Islam, which brought Africa into a more Eurasian system of trade, and introduced them to new religious ideas, and political organization.II.Animisma.It was common among African societies to believe in Animism, which is a look in natural forces as gods. It also provided a model for ethical behavior, and well rounded concepts of good and evil. They believed in a creator deity who did their induce through lesser spirits. b.Families, lineages, and clans all played important roles especially the deceased ancestors. They were believed to be a link to the spiritual world. c.Although the beliefs are generally the same in Animism throughout the different societies, their rituals are unique and different from one a nonher.III.Bantu languagea.The movement of Bantu spe aking people gave a general linguistic beginning throughout much of Africa. b.The only society that had a non-Bantu language was the Yourba.IV.Political Organizationa.African societies were all either a hierarchy, or a stateless society. A hierarchy is an organization in which people are ranked one above the other according to status. A stateless society is a society that is not governed by a state, and there is little authority.V.Conclusiona.In conclusion, Animism and Bantu language were the common elements found in African societies. b.Again, the conversion of some African states to Islam brought Africa into a more Eurasian system of trade, and introduced them to new religious ideas, and political organization.

Our Nation’s Hidden Problems †Hate Crimes Essay

It happens ein truth day, deal are made fun of, population are bullied and the bully-ers, and some peck are just flat out victims of straight hatred nuisances that lead to death. A Hate Crime is a wrong offense committed against persons, property or society that is motivated , in whole or in part, by an offenders bias against an individuals or a multitudes race, theology, ethnic/national origin, gender, age, disability or sexual orientation. -IACP Definition. With the definition of a hate crime explained, hate crimes are offenses against society. The perpetrators deem their eyes on not only a primary victim, yet everyone in the victims group everyone perceived as different. The perpetrators impact not only the victims, group but society as a whole, breaking the bond that h one-time(a)s its people together.Victims are seen as different from what the norm of society needs in its daily life. Actions from the perpetrator doesnt happen very randomly, yet happens all around the world. What is an extremely interesting topic is hate crimes on the college campuses. I was somewhat affect to see just how many incidents actually happen. According to Justice Department data, 12 percent of hate crimes take place on college or schooling campuses but the numbers dont show how much occurs on university campuses. Officials also say that many of the racial or sexual incidents are normally not reported. The virtually everyday hate crimes committed on a college campuses are racial bias, religious bias, and sexual orientation bias.Now with a racial bias hate crime has many examples of people hating each other for being black, or brown, or even white. However with college kids, its not as truthful as saying something like Youre a Nigger, or Youre Cracker. They have to put things to the extreme. Simple things are never good liberal. At the University of Missouri-Columbia, there were cotton balls scattered outside the black cultural center. This might seem like a harm less joke to some people, yet to others it is one of the most hateful and devastating thing someone could do. As early as 1560s slavery was brought into America from Spain. Blacks were treated as animals, were forced to do things that sinlessness people didnt want to do because they thought that they were to good for it. One task that is commonly known that blacks did as they were slaves was cotton pickers. The thirteenth amendment, abolishing slavery, was passed by the Senate in April 1864, and by the House of Representatives in January 1865, however feelings that the white people had for blacks still did not go away.Another example of a racial hate crime was done by a white fraternity sparked an uproar at the University of California San Diego when it sponsored a ghetto-themed Compton Cookout to mock Black History Month. There is a very fine line between hate crimes and stereotyping someone/many people. Almost every member of a stereotyped group is seen as an equal prospect of e veryone else in the group. A stereotype usually stoogenot be modified by contradictory evidence, meaning that no argument or evidence is compelling enough to change a hate mongers mind. Also, the the perpetrator is emotionally invested in believing the worst about the members of stigmatized group. Finally, the person who accepts the validity of a nasty stereotype isnt simply trying to make sense of his world. More likely, he is looking for a convenient excuse to express hostility, to attack and victimize the people he despises. Stereotyping is more accepted in society because every single person has stereotyped before.Religious based hate crimes are second most common in all of the hate crimes all over the world. More often than not Religious discrimination are usually acts of vandalism although personal attacks do occur. Of the religiously based hate crimes, attacks against Jews rose from 64% in 2006 to 68% in 2007. Anti-Muslim hate crimes, meanwhile, decreased from 12% in 2006 to 9% in 2007.This surprises me because hate crimes against Jews went up, yet I feel like the hate towards the Muslims has gone up and their hate crime attacks has gone down. After the terrorist attacks the get together States suffered from on the Twin Towers in New York City 2001, the FBI found that while attacks against Muslims had previously been the least common hate crime against a religious groupjust 28 in 2000the number of incidents surged to 481 in 2001, an increase of 1,600%. Even the hate crimes against peoples religions occurred college campuses.For examples, there was a swastika scrawled on a bathroom wall near a Jewish studies center at the University of Miami. Miami-Dade County, the eleventh largest Jewish community in the country, consists of 121,300 persons living in 54,000 Jewish households. Of these 121,300 persons, 113,000 are Jewish. Which is obviously a huge population of Jewish members, the perpetrators knew that it would be completely offensive. It is again jus t another college student who lacks in self-discipline. The question that I have been wondering is Why possesses you to do such a thing like this? Why do people think its alright to put all of their hatred out into the open and hurt other people. What people do is not hurt people emotionally, but they also sometimes hurt them physically. It might not be a physical act by the person committing the crime, it could be done by the victim of the hate crime, meaning self-infliction.Another example that hits closer to home here in Massachusetts. A younker man names James Samar was a college student who attended a small Massachusetts college was indicted on threesome counts of using threats of force to interfere with the rights of three other students. He used anti-Semitic slurs and threatened to actually kill one of the three other students. What James did was sent photographs of holocaust victims and said A reminder of what happened to your relatives because they too mad a mockery of Ch ristianity. To go as far as this someone must thing that there is something wrong with Samar. hoi polloi should not have this much hatred towards people or a certain group that they belong to. There is no right or wrong when it comes into what you believe. People need to take a step back, they dont need to agree with other people, it just has to be understood that opinions are opinions and everyone can have theirs.The third more common hate crime committed on a college campus is sexual orientation. Meaning the preferences on whether you like boys or girls, homophile or heterosexual. Two main cases that stand out on a college campus, are two young men Matthew Shepard who was a student at the University of Wyoming and Tyler Clementi a student at Rutgers University.Matthew Shepard was a 21 year old man who was attacked by two other men because he was gay. Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson were the two men who attacked Shepard with a pistol-whip, and tortured him, tying him to a fe nce and leaving him to die. Eighteen hours later a cyclist Aaron Kreifels, discovered Shepard and thought he was a scarecrow because he was alive but in coma.This however wasnt the first time Shepard was attacked for being gay. In 1995 during a high school trip, he was beaten, robbed, and raped, causing him to reap from school and experience depression and panic attacks. However, Henderson and McKinney were not charged with a hate crime, because no Wyoming criminal statute provided for such a charge. The nature of Shepards murder led to requests for new legislation addressing hate crime, urged particularly by those who believed that Shepard was targeted on the basis of his sexual orientation.As for Tyler Clementi, he was an 18 year old man who was a student at Rutgers University in New Jersey. What happened here to cause him to commit suicide was his roommate, Dharum Ravi, photograph tapes him with another man doing sexual acts. Clementi was video taped without his knowledge, and Ravi was charged with invasion or privacy and bias intimidation. It was at this point where Clementi had talked about his problems to his RA and also made his complaints public putting them up online on Yahoo and a message board website called Just Us Boys. No one listened to him, and thats when he took matters into his own hands and committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge.All of these cases that have been discussed in the paper are considered to be in some way or form of a hate crime. Hate crimes can be committed by everyone and anyone. These methods include how to use different classes for different programs, and how to use data sets across different programs. These are some of the practices we got to learn. It showed me how technology could be used to achieve so much and seduce mans work easier. Some of the insights I got were mostly from system design analysis and development. I got to learn the dynamics of implementing systems in organizations. I also learnt how these systems are used to improve the functionality of that organization (Skyttner, 2008). I understood the cost implications that are incurred by the organization. This also made me see how organizations justify the cost they incur when they have deployed a new system. They improve performance and make the staff understand why they claim to embrace information technology. I learnt that this is achieved through training and making the staff understand the importance of this change. During the course, I faced numerous challenges that helped me learn a lot from the curriculum. Some of the concepts that were taught I had a problem understanding them and seeing their practicality. They posed a challenge especially when I had to justify their use, some concepts that were taught were also contradicting and they unexpended me confused on which to apply. I later learnt that some of the concepts and practices might be contradicting, but they are utilize in different scenarios. This is because the different scenar ios require different approaches.
